Microsoft release keywords crystal ball

Michael Walsh
By Michael WalshPublished

Microsoft has recently unveiled an addition to the AdCenter Lab that allows users to view predictions of the future popularity of search terms.

You can enter 1 or more search terms into the experimental keyword analyser to view graphs of previous trends and also future trends conjured up by Microsoft’s very own Mystic Meg.

Now although trends based on historical data are useful and interesting in the same way as the Google Zeitgeist (and the keyword tools within AdWords) I see little point why Microsoft are attempting to predict future trends as this is really just guess work and I’d be interested to know how they are arriving at the figures. Perhaps it’s just a random algorithm or an extrapolation of the historical data trend, or both.
