The final product

The Brief

The team behind the existing Urban Environment & Social Inclusion Index (UESI) website, based at the University of North Carolina, USA, contacted us regarding the design and development of a new website to replace their Wordpress site.

The new site required a fresh, modern design and a deeper integration with the wealth of statistical data the team and their volunteers had collected and the ability to present that data in a range of insightful visualisations for the benefit of their users.

The new site involved two distinct elements, a Craft CMS element for the site’s content pages and a Laravel element for the data integration and visualisation pages.

What we did

The project began with a design process, to define the various template designs the site needed, which involved a period of discovery and content elements creation before moving into wireframing and then finally the production of hi-fidelity designs for the development teams to work from.

The UESI team were closely involved at every step of the design process, ensuring the design was a collaborative effort and resulted in a look-and-feel that met their needs exactly.

With the design work complete the front-end and back-end development teams could begin coding the site in Craft CMS and building out the integration with Dataverse (where the statistical data is stored for generating the site’s visualisations).

As the work progressed we were able to share a development URL with the client to gather their feedback and implement any adjustments until we reached a point when the site was ready to launch.

We’re delighted with the finished site and have received positive feedback from the UESI team and are already looking forward to enhancing and improving the site in the years ahead.
