Why we build on Craft

Craft CMS sits at a rare intersection: a CMS that treats editors like grown-ups, that developers genuinely enjoy working with, and that ages gracefully over the years a website actually has to live. We’ve tried most of the alternatives over our time in business (WordPress, Drupal, ExpressionEngine, Umbraco, Statamic, and a handful of headless CMSs) and Craft is the one we keep coming back to for content-managed websites.

It’s built around a few principles we agree with: content should be structured, editors should have flexibility without being able to break the design, developers should have clean tools that don’t fight them, and the platform should get out of the way.

What Craft is good at

Flexible content modelling. Craft’s Matrix fields and entry types let us design content structures that match how your organisation actually thinks about its content, rather than forcing everything into a generic “post” or “page” mould.

Editor experience. Craft’s control panel is widely regarded as the best in the CMS space. Editors can build pages, reorder content, manage assets, and preview changes without needing a manual or a developer.

Multi-site and multilingual. A single Craft installation can power multiple brands, regions, or languages, each with its own content and templates, ideal for organisations with more than one audience.

Developer experience. Craft’s Twig templating, PHP plugin architecture, and event system make it straightforward to extend without the typical CMS pain. For developers who want a platform to build on rather than wrestle with, Craft is a joy.
